Interview met collega Zaki Knifati Hayek
“The culture of the organisation, the great colleagues you work with, and the room you have to develop yourself.” When Zaki started work at VanderLinden, he immediately started on his intermediate vocational level 3 course in electrical engineering via ElektroPro, the talent development centre of Actemium, VanderLinden and VerAutomation. You study and work at the same time.
“Working and studying at the same time can be a challenge. I was pleased I could go to school during the day. It was not always easy to combine with my family, particularly with two children.” says Zaki. Zaki was the first student of ElektroPro to obtain his diploma and is now lead mechanic in electrical engineering. “The learning environment and atmosphere in ElektroPRO are really good. In other intermediate vocational schools there are usually lots of students and there is not enough time for individual support. That is quite different at ElektroPRO. The group is just right, not too big and not too small. The atmosphere is perfect, particularly compared to my previous experiences. There is a lot of respect in the group and everyone helps each other.”
The diversity in my work makes it interesting and fun! No two days are the same. I have plenty of opportunity to take responsibility, from implementation to work preparation, from projects to resolving faults. It really gives me satisfaction to consider the issue and make a difference. For example, when a client has a fault, you start looking for what could be causing the fault, and you can help the client immediately by coming up with a solution. You don’t have to go back to the business unit first to suggest your solution.

I’m truly responsible for my work and my colleagues can rely on my expertise in electrical engineering. I acquired a lot of experience, and I like to share this with my colleagues. It is great to be able to think about issues and make a difference. I have my own van and my own toolbox.
