First ‘green’ Battery Storage in Europe for AES
Together with DELTA Infra, Omexom has realised the first Battery Storage in Europe in Vlissingen for the American firm AES. In the 10 MW Battery Storage, electricity is stored in lithium-ion batteries as a primary reserve of TenneT. The storage capacity of the Battery Storage is similar to that of 400,000 mobile phones. The storage serves as a buffer for peaks and troughs in electricity demand. No fossil fuels are used.
Omexom was responsible for the complete low voltage installation and building-related installations. From the installation of the batteries, the stacking in the racks to the connections to the transformers. Omexom also provided a powerful cooling system. This is essential, since batteries can produce significant heat. The commissioning was also part of the contract.
